How to improve your relationship
It is often said that finding the right partner is hard. The thing which is often not given attention is the fact that it is even more difficult to sustain a relationship with that perfect partner. There are times when the relationship is strained. There will be moments when you will feel that things are not working out, that the magic is dissolving, and that things are not as you had envisioned. The first thing that you need to do is decide if the relationship is worth fighting for. Is it important for you to hold on to the relationship? If yes, the time has come to pull your socks up and do a little bit of work for it. It will require some effort on your part, but with the right approach, there is no reason that you would not be able to iron out the creases.
1. Find a friend in your partner
If you want to improve your relationship, you need to develop a bond of friendship with your partner. Being in a relationship is not always about love. You need to be able to talk to your partner about everything and anything. You need to listen to what your partner has to say. There should be no barriers between the two of you.
2. Make that extra effort
After some time has elapsed, we start taking our relationships for granted. Go back to the time when the relationship had just started. Think back to how you used to make an effort to be aware of the likes and dislikes of your partner. Recall how you used to do little things to make them feel special. That is the magic that you need to retain. You need to ensure that you are aware of what your partner likes and make an effort to give preference to their likes.
3. Refrain from invading your partner’s space
Sometimes in a relationship, it is natural to feel possessive. However, you need to ensure that your partner does not start feeling suffocated. Space is rather important for the survival of every relationship. Thus, it might be a good idea to take a break and spend some time apart for a couple of days. As they often say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.
4. Give time
Taking a relationship for granted is usually the final nail in the coffin. A relationship, at every level, needs time. Therefore, instead of being engrossed in your phone or any other activity, give time and attention to your partner. Look for activities to do together so that you can spend some time with each other.
5. Be appreciative
A person in a relationship needs to feel special and important. Be supportive and appreciative of what your partner does and let them know that they can count on you at every step.
6. Learn to accept mistakes
The urge to have the last word can destroy a relationship. Admit your mistakes and refrain from nagging. Do not try to prove yourself right in every argument. Try to put yourself in the shoes of your partner.
7. Do not shy away from talking about any problems
Silence can be the death of a relationship. If you think that there is a problem, talk about it. Do not let the problem erode your relationship to the point that it crumbles into shambles.
8. Make the present worthwhile
Often in our attempt to secure the future, we neglect the present. Live in the present and cherish what you have at the moment.
9. Do not judge
Being judgmental can prove to be disastrous for your relationship. Instead of being all critical about the actions of your partner, try to put yourself in their shoes and understand their point of view.
10. Sharing power and control
Do not put the whole responsibility of the relationship on one person. Share it. Some days you can be in control, while on others, your partner can be the one who calls the shots. Be understanding in this regard.
Every relationship requires a bit of work to flourish. You need to ensure that both partners are on the same wavelength. Both of you should want the relationship to continue and be willing to work to solve the issues that have crept up over time. Usually, the problems are not even that big. It is just a matter of sitting down and discussing things. A little effort is all that is usually required to give a second lease of life to the relationship. Thus, if your relationship is important to you, ensure that you are willing to work for it. A bit of time and effort would solve all the problems and strengthen the bond that you share with your partner.
